FASHION AND SERIES: THE NEW FASHION IMPOSED BY 'THE BRIDGERTONS'.

The Bridgertons', have reached millions of homes around the world, what has this Netflix series had to become the star series of the moment? From Meryfor we tell you all the keys to this new phenomenon that is undoubtedly inspiring the current fashion.

One of the things that has influenced is the incredible costumes, designed by Ellen Mirojnik. In period series, costumes are everything. Fashion becomes an essential part of the story by reflecting the personality and essence of each of the characters, and such is the case of Bridgerton, for the majesty of its settings and, above all, its looks.

In total, more than 7,500 costumes were made that perfectly reflect how the young ladies and ladies of the English aristocracy dressed in the early 1800s. Specifically, the series is set in 1813. "We set about looking at different silhouettes and shapes keeping in mind that it was going to be an inspiration, not an exact historical recreation," the designer explained.

Remind anyone of the looks of leading lady Daphne Bridgerton?

Well, if your answer is yes, you are right, as Daphne Bridgerton's looks are inspired by Audrey Hepburn's in the 1950's movie "War and Peace" .

What details make them similar? The hairstyle characterized by the small fringe, the tiaras and other accessories with sparkling touches, the headdresses and hats on the head and the empire-cut dresses, sweet and romantic style with cut under the chest.

What elements have most influenced current fashion?

  • The search for vintage corsets has skyrocketed.
  • There has also been a lot of interest in the type of dresses that are cut below the bust for a plunging neckline.
  • The search for headdresses with pearls and feathers has also increased.
  • And perhaps also long gloves, brooches or tiaras with hair up, to give a sophisticated touch to our looks.
The relationship with Christian Dior:

The designer, Ellen Mirojnik, to design the costumes for the series, was inspired by paintings from London's regency era, was the period between 1811 and 1820. In this period the dresses fitted closely to the torso just below the bust, falling loosely underneath, clearly like the Bridgerton's. Have you heard of 'Regencycore' on social media: magic, fantasy and special effects? This trend is based on those garments worn in the Regency era and is totally booming.

He was also inspired by the decade of the 50s and 60s, we can see this especially in the headdresses, long gloves, etc.

But above all, she was inspired by Dior. "We looked at Dior dresses, from the New Look to today," she confessed.

And it is inevitable, if we look at the new collection that Maria Grazia Chiuri presented for Dior Haute Couture of medieval influence for spring/summer 2021 for the 2021 fashion week, that it does not remind us of the costumes of this series, although it is true that the collection is inspired by the tarot cards, we can see many very similar details. For us, it has taken us directly to Daphne's looks. Did the same thing happen to you?
