FASHION AND SERIES: THE NEW FASHION IMPOSED BY 'THE BRIDGERTONS'.

The Bridgertons', have reached millions of homes around the world, what has this Netflix series had to become the star series of the moment? From Meryfor we tell you all the keys to this new phenomenon that is undoubtedly inspiring current fashion.

One of the things that has had an influence is the incredible costumes, designed by Ellen Mirojnik. In period series, costumes are everything. Fashion becomes an essential part of the story as it reflects the personality and essence of each of the characters, and such is the case of Bridgerton, due to the majesty of its settings and, above all, its looks.

In total, more than 7,500 costumes were made, perfectly reflecting how the young ladies and ladies of the English aristocracy dressed in the early 1800s. Specifically, the series is set in 1813. "We looked at different silhouettes and shapes with the idea in mind that it was going to be an inspiration, not an exact historical recreation," the designer explained.

Does Daphne Bridgerton's looks remind anyone of her?

If your answer is yes, you are right, because Daphne Bridgerton's looks are inspired by those of Audrey Hepburn in the 1950s film "War and Peace" .

What details make them similar? The hairstyle characterised by the small fringe, the tiaras and other accessories with sparkling touches, the headdresses and hats on the head and the empire-cut dresses, sweet and romantic in style with a cut below the bust.

What elements have most influenced today's fashion?

  • The search for vintage corsets has exploded.
  • There has also been a lot of interest in the type of dresses that are cut under the bust for a plunging neckline.
  • The search for headdresses with pearls and feathers has also increased.
  • And perhaps long gloves, brooches or tiaras with hair tied back will also make a comeback to give a sophisticated touch to our looks.
The relationship with Christian Dior:

The designer, Ellen Mirojnik, was inspired to design the costumes for the series by paintings from the Regency period in London, the period between 1811 and 1820. In this period the dresses fitted closely to the torso just below the bust, falling loosely underneath, clearly like the Bridgertons. Have you heard of 'Regencycore' on social media: Magic, fantasy and special effects. This trend is based on those garments worn in the Regency era and is all the rage.

He was also inspired by the 50's and 60's, especially in the headdresses, long gloves, etc.

But above all, she was inspired by Dior. "We looked at Dior dresses, from the New Look to the present day," she confessed.

And it is inevitable, if we look at the new collection that Maria Grazia Chiuri presented for Dior Haute Couture with a medieval influence for spring/summer 2021 for the 2021 fashion week, that it doesn't remind us of the costumes of this series, although it is true that the collection is inspired by the tarot cards, we can appreciate many very similar details. For us it has taken us directly to Daphne's looks. Did the same thing happen to you?

It is clear that if you haven't seen the series yet, from Meryfor we encourage you to go and watch it, because it is having a huge influence on this year's fashion and who knows if in the next years...

Maybe soon we will change the total comfy tracksuit look, maxi coat and trainers for big vintage dresses and feather headdresses.
